This version of Within gives the solo player a chance to perform this challenging piece. The backing CD is great, and really helps those of us who are a little unsure in this medium gain some confidence to move in the right direction. It's not easy though. The extended techniques needed include note bending, quarter tones and flicks and trils so new fingerings will have to be learnt first. Then there is the playing and singing. But if you're tackling this, you can probably play all this kind of thing already. Within is possibly not the piece with which to start an exporation of Ian's music but for those who are already fans this is another winner.
