The composer of this beautiful pavane is unknown. The stately melody is introduced in chorale form, followed by 8 contrasting variations on the theme, including other dance forms.
This piece can be effectively playerd with many combinations of flutes. The piccolo part is the optional wild card, and sounds great when added to a five piece flute ensemble or larger groups.It certainly adds brilliance when this work is played by a large flute choir.
LIke all theme and variations the performers may skip variations to suit thier needs and preferences. Do so with the composer's blessing.
