Ut is written as a solo piece for alto flute, yet it forms a duet with a pre-recorded tuba part. The contrasts between the flute and tuba is explored with a possibililty to adjust the levels by using a micorphone for the live flute. The performer has to time and adjust the playing with the tape part in order to create a good balance. However, in spite of the fixed nature of the tape, the piece will never sound the same twice as there are several improvised sections where the performer has to choose how respond to the tape part.
