These two delightful arrangements are welcome additions to the repertoire for this popular combination. Sonatina 1 is in A major and the flute writing is low and lyrical with the Romance being particularly effective. Sonatina 2 is more robust with two fast movements is G major. It is said that Beethoven made these transcriptions himself but they are beautiful whoever did them!
There are still doubts about whether or not the two sonatinas (originally meant for piano in G major and F major) are genuine. Due to their low level of difficulty, they are part of the standard repertoire of every piano student, and it was their popularity which brought about the arrangement presented here, mainly based on the original text.
