Here is a flute quartet that should capture the imagination of every group of star-struck flute students! The style is harmonically quite quirky and each of the 6 movements sets a different task to be mastered. For example, Endless Worlds has a central section in three flats, Meteor Shower is an ensemble poser, Space Race stretches technique and Moon Song has a tricky rhythmic riff. Warner-Bluhmann seems to have worked these pieces with younger players in mind, so the flutes either work in pairs or with a solo part and accompaniment, the combination changing through each movement. Despite the high price tag, this really well-crafted book is very good, very useful and a great investment.
