This very effective piece for flute and cello will really add an extra dimension to any concert programme. Lasting only two minutes, the performance direction is 'fleeting, with freedom' and you can see how this reflects the Trail of Light title. Bray intertwines the instruments producing textures that flicker all the way through. The complex rhythms are passed between the parts, each briefly taking centre stage before adopting a less active role. Starting quietly, the piece develops into a blaze of colour before disappearing completely. All of this happens in a short time frame of course, which really increases the impact. Well worth exploring.
