“Happy Music!”
Michael Torke’s music has been described as “optimistic, joyful, and thoroughly uplifting” which is a great description of this piece. Syncopated rhythms drive the music forward from the bass while the flute dances above. It's all supposed to be 'very fast, light and effortless' - tricky to achieve but great fun to try!
When Carol Wincenc’s Naumberg Retrospective Concert fell on February 14th, she asked me to write "a valentine," for flute and piano. Here is my contribution.
