“An interesting book”
Ervin Munroe was principal flute in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for 40 years. His knowledge is vast and, as you would expect from someone with such a rich vein of experience, this book is fascinating. The first chapter is entitled 'The relationship between' and covers basics such as intonation and dynamics, overtones, sound and flute structure. The remaining chapters each focus on one note and include different fingerings, musical examples, some exercises and wonderful anecdotes about situations and flute players he has encountered during his career. There's also space for your own comments about the fingerings and grids for you to include any of your own should you need more. It's not for everyone but very interesting nonetheless.
A complete book of Sensitive and Alternate fingerings, with full explanations and musical examples. This book also contains a full analysis of the flute structure and how the different tone holes and keys affect all the notes we play. Ervin Monroe includes many anecdotes from his forty years of orchestral playing. Excellent graphics, easy to read. This book is a must!
