Based on Ruth 1:16-17, this work is a beautiful meditation suitable for concert or church settings. The flute part is written for one player playing both alto and C flutes, however, a transposed part for C flute only is included in case only a C flute is available.
This is an evocative setting of a religious text (Ruth1:16-17). Set in the appropriate key of D minor, the accompaniment has an arpeggiated texture throughout and provides the basis for the simple vocal line. This dovetails effectively with the meandering flute writing and the change from alto to C flute and back again helps the colour. Whilst perhaps not the most memorable tune ever written, the text is one that is often associated with the ceremony of marriage and as such could prove very valuable.
