The present edition of Haydn's sonata in E flat major for flute or violin and piano is based on an edition by Sieber which appeared during the composer's lifetime. It is a classical arrangement of a string quartet.
The work's musical substance has largely been preserved, there is a judicious balance between the flute and the piano and the virtuoso or accompanying passages have been equally shared between the two instruments.
