The arranger had been searching for some time to find suitable baroque material to transcribe for the tenor saxophone. He was delighted to discover that the viola da gamba has virtually the same range, thereby opening up a potentially large new repertoire. This is particularly welcome given the scarcity of music which explores the tenor's special qualities. As with all music from the period, any dynamics, articulation and ornaments are only suggestions and therefore can be left to the player's discretion.
