This is an interesting work in which motivic fragments are passed round between the players, expanding as they go, to form an exciting cresendo to the end. There is a brief moment of repose in the middle but it's short-lived.. The group will need good rhythmic and ensemble skills are to succesfully hold the piece together but it's great fun in the end! It makes a very good contrast in a concert.
Snowbreak is an interesting piece both from a rhythmic and tonal point of view in which technical challenge and fun form a successful union. In lieu of a preface, a quote from Hermann Hesse's poem STUFEN (=steps) precedes this piece.
