If you really want to bring the house down at the end of your concert this brilliant piece is perfect! A dramatic introduction in which both flutes soar above piano arpeggios leads to a brisk allegro which has them operating mostly in close harmony. There is a brief lull before the next allegro provides a stellar articulation workout for the first flute. Another slower passage with an almost-familiar melody leads to a third allegro which rounds off the work after a brief return to the introduction. Unashamedly romantic as well as a virtuoso showcase, this is fantastic fun to play, and will have your audience singing all the way home!
This fantasy on themes from Hungarian composer Imre Kalman's operetta "Die Csardasfurstin" was composed in 2018 by Eugene Magalif. It features a variety of themes from the opera, colorfully intertwining them, giving both flutes plenty of opportunities to shine!
