'Showtime' is a good piece for getting to grips with those sometimes troublesome jazzy rhythms. Although there are large numbers of player involved, the writing is mostly in blocks of parts so there is always a 'safely-in-number' approach around all the way through. There is plenty of scope here for trying out rhythm drills and seeing how different rhythmic cells can fit together, as well as developing listening and ensemble skills through this understanding. It is fast and furious and in sharps - quite a challenge and really good fun!
A lively ensemble piece, with intricate rhythms and exciting melodies. Another highly enjoyable flute ensemble piece from this increasingly prolific composer.
