These seven short Haiku work very well. Each one paints an evocative picture as the flute expands on the brevity of the text in the vocal line. Atmospheric tonal clashes and soaring leaps are highlighted by the simplicity of the rhythmic structure, resulting in fluid textures which have an almost meditative feel and soothe the imagination. There is a element of Benjanim Britten in there somewhere but Katherine Hoover has a style all of her own. Every audience would love to hear music as beautiful as this.
