Henri Wieniawski was one of the most famous violin players of his age. His compositions were mostly meant for his own use, presenting his extraordinary talent of virtuosity with his instrument. His "Scherzo-Tarantelle" stands in the tradition of the "Étude de concert", but it also shows the wild and dramatic gesture of the old historical Tarantella: dancing away the poisonous bite of the Tarantula spider with a long, exhausting and trance-like ritual.
