“Spectacular!”
This is certainly different! Nicole Chamberlain is master of the new flute techniques which are used in abundance here and she adds slap tonguing and note bending to the clarinet part as well to even things up. It's a roller-coaster of a piece with the strong rhythms and 'Salty' dissonance giving the music energy and direction, It's not easy to play either so you really have to love this style to take it on. If you do it's spectacular!
Salty was commissioned by flutist Dan Parasky and clarinetist Amanda Morrison of PM Woodwind Project.
The word salty has a few of meanings, but in this interpretation the title refers to the slang description of a crusty, rude, bitter, or annoyed person.
