“A good tune”
I have a soft spot for Kronke as I think he knew exactly how to spin a good tune on the flute. The 'con moto tranquillo' of the Romance uses a simple melody over an arpeggiated accompaniment and the cheeky A major Scherzo has a slightly more lyrical F major central section. It is easier than some of his other works for this combination and all three parts could be played by good students. In any case this lovely work represents a valuable addition to the repertoire.
