This beats playing arrangements! Written for Jean-Louis Beaumardier who took part in the first performance, these three Canadian folk tunes have been crafted into proper piccolo chamber music. 'Vive la Canadienne!' in D major in a Vivement four-in-a-bar jigs along effectively. The second movement is marked Andante with the melody floating over a flowing accompaniment. There are cadenza-like passages for all three players here. Donkey Riding is based on a well-known folk song. There is a tricky 7/8 section in 5 flats here and you will need some dextrous fingers to accomplish this at full speed. This is real piccolo music for real piccolo players - priceless!
