This flute quartet is a very welcome addition to the repertoire. Kummer has written a delightful 4 movement work in C major which will be perfectly playable by a student group. The opening movement is an 'allegro non tanto' in 6/8, in which the running semiquavers are shared among the four instruments. Rhythmic and stylistic ornamentation are the challenges in the F major 'andante' which has a central section in 3 sharps. A spritely minuet and trio is followed a brisk 'allegro vivace' finale in which the flute has the predominant role. Altogether a winner!
