“Certainly different!”
Not quite a graphic score but this piece is written in cells, in which you can choose what to play from the given notes, and governed by physical time. The resulting textures, or chaos depending on your point of view, are certainly different. You will need 8 players and someone with a stopwatch for a live performance and anyone can be involved as long as there is enough experience among the group as a whole. This work will definitely spice up your concert programme - a talking point for sure!
Q for Quarantined Flute Choir, is a response to shelter-in-place limitations amidst the 2020 pandemic and the difficulties of playing and recording as an ensemble. Each player records their part, eventually to be combined into a whole; coordination is achied through using time markers instead of measures or ensemble direction. However, Q can also be performed in a live concert setting, again using stopwatches (timers), or with a leader cueing when to move on to the next musical cell.
