This piccolo dates from the very early years of the Flutemakers Guild, which was formed in 1961 by seven former Rudall Carte flute makers. This piccolo was made in 1969/1970 and is likely to be the first ever made Piccolo by the FMG. It offers exceptional value for a handmade instrument, made of unstained grenadilla wood.
This piccolo has recently been overhauled by Arthur Haswell, and is in great playing order. It's a rare opportunity to grab a fantastically made piccolo from the original Flute Maker's Guild.
The Flutemakers Guild was founded in 1961 as the result of a number of craftsmen breaking away from a very famous flutemaking firm that was being absorbed by a larger organisation. The Guild was formed to continue the tradition of making flutes in the way of the fine British flutes of earlier years. They felt that the individuality needed in order to produce a handmade flute of the highest quality would be lost when the heavy hand of "big business" took over.
