It's lovely to have less familiar music arranged for flute ensemble so this quirky piece by Gustav Holst is most welcome. Carla Rees uses her large forces well, sometimes having safety in numbers with the use of rhythmic untity but mostly challenging the group with creative part writing. Changes of time are a feature of this music and the 7/8 Dance of the Spirits of the Earth is particularly well crafted. The whole ballet will provide a thorough work-out for an experienced flute choir but if you do have the skills and the resources to tackle it you will find it just perfect!
