Our remarkable Piccolo PFP-105 was the culmination of years of exploration and research into the creation of a truly revolutionary material – Grenaditte. Precise pitch, an exquisite tone, and a spacious dynamic range are all to be found within this truly innovative instrument. Grenaditte echoes all the positive qualities of wood in appearance, weight, density, and feel. Unlike wood, Grenaditte is impervious to shock, temperature, and moisture fluctuation. Since its launch in 2006, esteemed professional players and music industry experts the world over have greeted the Pearl Piccolo as a phenomenon. In 2010 the PFP-165 was launched featuring a natural Granadilla wood headjoint, and high quality synthetic pads (which are now also available on the 105 model) gaining Pearl the enviable position of straddling the student, intermediate and professional piccolo market. As with the entire Pearl Flute range, the PFP-105 and PFP-165 are manufactured with our world-renowned Pinless Mechanism and are the only piccolos on the market to feature this innovation.
Grenaditte is a recent discovery in terms of musical instruments: a form of plastic, it has the tonal qualities of Grenadilla-wood (the traditional wood used for making piccolos), and a large dynamic range, along with precise pitch. It is also impervious to temperature fluctuations, meaning it won't crack, and ensuring a consistent performance every time.
Pearl’s exclusive mechanismIn 1972, Pearl’s innovative technicians created the patented One-Piece Core-Bar and Pinless Construction, and Pearl’s continually smooth key-action became a reality. Since that time, Pearl is still the only flute manufacturer to apply these features on every flute made.
The Pearl PFP-105E/OM is virtually identical to the PFP-105E model, with the addition of Omnipads.
Omnipads are unique in that they have a three layer stucture; a plastic backing, a harder foam middle layer, and finally the playing surface foam. This results in a warmer (less bright) sound, which is ideal for a piccolo. The plastic backing also makes the installation much more accurate.
Pearl's handmade craftsmanship has pioneered a tradition of flute making that is totally distinctive. Many flute makers claim to be innovators, but Pearl's track record can be proven. Most of the artisans have the distinction of building flutes for their entire career only at Pearl. The apprentice program has been employed for decades, which allows the talents of master builders to be passed on to future generations. The foundation of every Pearl flute is a patented Pinless construction, which eliminates the problems of traditional flute construction - protruding needles that snag clothing and give easy entry to perspiration and body acids causing corrosion and binding keys. Besides this unique pinless construction, Pearl flutes have additional bridge mechanisms that add strength to the entire mechanism. The goal of handmade creativity united with meticulous assembly is consequently realised.
