Commissioned by two faculty colleagues, Panels is a series of scenes which fit into a unified whole. Hodkinson says, "Since all the panels are fitted together from the same 'block of fabric,' each could be viewed as a close variation of the one heard prior." Originally for oboe and piano, Hodkinson also created a version for soprano saxophone, at the request of a friend. For advanced performers
