This easy-listening wind quintet by Paul Carr deserves to be played more often as each movement is full of wit and charm. On paper the parts look quite straightforward but hidden dangers await! The rhythms can be really tricky to get together at the suggested speeds with Boys on the Beach the most testing, and there are some technically demanding passages for all five players throughout, Jazz influences in the harmonies colour Bicycles in the Rain, Summer Evening meanders gently and Through Crowded Streets bustles us through the opening movement. Tuscan Diary presents a really buzzy end to the work. This arrangement is different from the original orchestral version but the energy and vibrancy remains. A light-hearted delight!
