This unsettling piece is a transcription of a war protest song written by Debussy in 1915. John Gibson has split the vocal line and the accompaniment between all the parts so everyone has to deal with sustaining the tune, managing the bass and play the running triplets smoothly. Simple but effective.
The complete title is: “Noel des enfants qui n’ont plus de maison,” or “Christmas Carol for Homeless Children.” Composed for voice and piano in 1915, it was a protest of war while France was being attacked by German forces. Scored for three C Flutes.
