This flamboyant Overture, written in 1844, is a medley of typically Viennese quasi-military melodies, gathering tempo as they gallop to a triumphant finale...just the thing for dashing cavalry officers and clarinettists of grades 5 to 9! It was also used as the central subject for the Bugs Bunny cartoon "Baton Bunny".
