Moravian Echos has been 'inspired by the Moravian folk music as regards melody, rhythm and modality'. In order to bring this into the world of the 21st century, Ruzickova uses contemporary techniques in both the flute and cello parts and also requires the performers to sing. This atmospheric work in 3 slow movements makes full use of all available timbres (including the use of alto flute) and rhythmic devices to evoke an entirely different sound world from what might expected from this combination of instruments. A challenging and rewarding addition to the repertoire.
