This haunting little piece has a wonderful mystery inherent in the misty sound of the flute ensemble. Opening with a ghostly waltz of interwoven textures we quickly discover the individual characteristics of these four members of the flute family before we meld into a jaunty march introduced by the ‘fife like’ piccolo….. and finally, the juxtaposition of all the thematic material leads us to an exuberant finale; a march accompanied by a waltz!
