This is a charming quartet. Not originally for flute, John Gibson has shared out the thematic material between all four parts so that they are fairly equal. There are some unusual harmonies and the rhythm is quite spiky with staccato being much in evidence. There is a tricky middle section in A flat major which is sandwiched between the principal material in C major. Altogether an interesting buy.
FOR FLUTE QUARTET—A transcription of the original work for flute and piano (JBL-13). Reminiscent of a gentler time when one might relax in a Victorian garden. For 3 C flutes and alto flute (alternate C flute included).
