This appealing piece is textural rather than tuneful and really uses the flutes to create waves of sound. The opening slow section begins with chromatic building of chords before using a shadowy motif and accompaniment that is passed around the group. This turns into a waltz which uses this opening material. The use of the instruments is really skillful and the result, although not happy singalong, music is still lovely!
