This is a great piece of flute writing. Really bringing to life a puppet in search of freedom, a mixture of percussive sounds, contemporary flute techniques and a virtuoso outlook create a whirlwind of textures. The improvisation sections from both instruments add to this general feeling of mayhem. This is clearly some puppet and some struggle! If you have a great technique this will be brilliant!
Originally commissioned by Wissam Boustany and premiered on 22nd May 2008 at St John's Smith Square, London with Aleksander Szram.
