This piece was commissioned by the NFA for their Young Artist Competition in 2007 and it works very well. The clever thing is that it's mostly slow so there's plenty of time for the ear to assimilate the intricate rhythms and tonal variation. Contemporary techniques used are clearly laid out in the preface - skills such as mulitphonics and quarter tones are required - but this piece is very playable once the rhythms are mastered. It's actually a really good introduction to the genre and as such is very valuable.
