This is a setting of a poem by Kriete in which ‘the lost lover is reminded of past delights by the love call of the flute’. The flute has always been associated with this theme and the writing mirrors the vocal line in lyricism and passion and ends the song with a wistful cadenza. This is a lovely song – and a good piece to programme into a mixed recital.
