Pronunication is a really good title for an articulation book and this work from Philippe Bernold really delivers. There is much familiar material here with standard scales and a pull out worksheet. Set up the easy-to-use on-line accompaniments and try the patterns and suddenly it's not quite so predictable! There are two levels to work on, the first concentrates on basic tonguing quality, the second on double and triple tonguing and then the rest of the book, "And Now for Some Sport" includes different types of articulation and short orchestral excerpts. A bonus is the extra information and technical tips, and the quotes from great flute players of the past. If your tonguing practice is a little jaded this could well rekindle your motivation.
Articulation - pronunciation - is a fundamental part of playing the flute.
Its mastery allows us to have a clear, varied, colorful and therefore lively speech. The transverse flute articulation is done by cutting the sound with the tongue, as a singer cuts a melodic line with words. The purpose of this book is to deepen these many possibilities of expression by drawing on two series of major and minor scales, but also by addressing many exercises and orchestral traits.
The book is divided into six chapters:
There is a chapter at the end of the volume entitled "Notes for the curious!" Consisting of in-depth articles as well as a paragraph on articulation through teaching methods from the 17th to the 20th centuries.
