Embedded in atmospheric descriptions of the lively Aegean metropolis are portraits of Chopin, Brahms and Rachmaninov enriched with Turkish coloring: all three homage sentences quote the famous İzmir Marşı (Izmir March) with the text beginning İzmirin Dağlarıda Çıçekler Açar (Flowers bloom in the mountains from Izmir), a political statement on the 100th anniversary of the Turkish War of Independence and in memory of the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
