Take a great tune, arrange it sensitively and you have a piece that really works hard for you. Such a sumptious melody is wonderful to play so balancing the parts is the main challenge here. If you have an alto and bass the texture is that much richer but this works equally well for four C flutes. It is very approachable on the page so care can also be taken with intonation and tonal quality. These are difficult concepts but this lovely piece makes it all feel very easy. It's really just the thing!
An operatic classic, the beautiful Intermezzo originally featured just strings, organ, harp and oboe. This setting for C flute quartet treats the original with respect, and is a great opportunity to work on breathing, balance and intonation.
