This lovely flute quartet takes its inspiration from the works of Whistler that are found in the Freer Art Gallery in Washington DC. The first and fourth movements represent actual paintings whist 'Counterpoint of Color' and 'The Artisans' reflect on our reactions to the art. From a flute playing perspective, the style is easy-going with an oriental twist. The harmonies are pleasing, with languid melodies contrasting with some technical and sprited writing, particularly in the the last movement 'Fighting Peacocks'. This is a beautiful quartet that I'm sure you will return to again and again.
