The idea of introducing contemporary techniques at an early stage is not new and this smart book will make the task much easier. Most techniques are covered, each one presented with clear descriptions of what to do together with a short study. These have great titles such as 'Getting Kind of Wet' for pizzicato, 'Steam Trains' for whistle tones and 'Morning Call' for harmonics.Towards the end of the book some the techniques are used together. The book itself is colourful and there are downloadable accompaniments to help it all stay in time and sound good. A perfect book for the young and not such a bad idea for the rest of us either!
The aim of this book is to introduce the young flutists to extended flute techniques and contemporary notation.
Addressed at an early stage, these new playing modes will readily become as common and familiar to them as any other musical language. No longer apprehended as a difficult issue, these extended techniques will enrich the young musician's expressive palette.
A purposely funny and imaginative approach seemed the best way to help overcome all apprehensions.
Each new technique is first discovered through practical exercises then applied in a short performance piece - the musical complement of a regular weekly practice. A recorded version of the pieces is available on the publisher's website.
Enjoy the music and have fun!
