We have no exact information on Luigi Gianella's origins and beginnings. Established facts are his activities as a flautist with various orchestras in Paris and a stay in London. He died in Paris in 1817. In addition to his work as a flautist, Gianella was a respected composer. In his numerous instrumental works he confined himself almost exclusively to pieces for and with the flute. Our new edition of the flute concerto in D minor is based on a contemporary edition of the publishing company Pleyel-Paris.
