Jurgan Franz has chosen some unusual music for this album and he has transcribed all the pieces with sensitivity and skill. The melodic writing of Brahms is beautifully captured, as it that of the less familiar gems by Gliere and Elgar. Wagner and Mompou provide the wild cards here, making this book even more interesting. If it's great tunes you're after this is a must.
Transcriptions have always played a major role in the tradition of flute music. Flautists and composers always worked on their own works or were inspired by the violin or piano repertoire.
The present album "Five romantic Pieces for Flute and Piano" is a collection of works originally written for piano, violin or voice and piano. The melodic character of these pieces lends itself particularly well to giving these works a new timbre with the flute as the melody instrument. In addition, this album expands the romantic repertoire of flute music.
