Damare is best known for his music for piccolo but this fantasy on a theme from a ballet by Oliver Metra show that he could write for the flute just as well. It is dedicated to Taffanel and contains all the usual elements of music of this genre - a cadence-type opening, the melody itself and then variations. It's all very charming but the really valuable thing is that it is easier by a distance than most of the other pieces in this style. A winner then!
