Fantasie by Faure is one of the compositions most beloved by flute players everywhere - no self respecting flute player should be without this piece in their repertoire!
Fantasie [1898 ] was the result of Taffanel's request that Faure, as Professor of Composition at the Paris Conservatoire, should write a piece for the summer flute examination. It opens with a lilting slow section that offers some technical hurdles before plunging via a rapid G major scale into the fast and tricky second section (which is equally difficult for the pianist and the reason why Roz Trubger made the duet edition in order to accompany her flute students!)
The duet version has the solo for player 1, plus the accompaniment compressed into a single line for a second flute player.
