Mefistofeles is an obscure opera by d'Arrigo Boito and Luigi Hughes has given it the real late-nineteenth century virtuoso treatment. This is another wonderful edition from Jean-Louis Beaumadier who has the ability to unearth these gems and make them more widely available. The specified grade of 'moyen difficulte' is perhaps a little optimistic however - whilst not as difficult as some pieces in this series it's over 10 minutes long and still a serious A major work-out. A substantial Andante introduction leads into a perky Allegretto which in turn gives way to an Andante sostenuto. This is a great opportunity for lyrical playing despite the inevitable demi-semiquaver embellishments. The ending is as you would expect. If you like piccolo music from this genre try this - it won't disappoint.
