“Lovely atmospheric music for four flutes!”
This and it's companion 'Voices on the Wind' are based on the melodies of Native American music. The feeling of space conveyed in both is wonderful, with textures building and ebbing away. There is minimal use of new techniques here, with only wide vibrato and pitch bends used to add to the sonority. These are 2 very interesting pieces - enjoy them now!
Commissioned in 2006, Echoes of the Ancients is for four C flutes and is based on Native American themes. For students, it is a good introduction to pitch bending and tremolos. Very free in nature, this work can be played in a variety of venues ranging from an echoing cathedral, to the middle of the forest.
