The Dumka was created in 1991 as a Homage to Dvorak and his 150th birthday. Dvorak himseld had composed numerous dumky, so the composition of a duma in his honour suggested itself, the more so since the word dumka was derived from ''dumiti'' which means to think abou.
Frank Michael's composition illuminates the path of the quotation and the allusions of Dvorak's relationship with other composers. The work is encoded via the number symbolism and requires technical and rhythmic security as well as some newer playing techiniques.
