Anyone taking an evening stroll in British suburbia in the 1960's and 70's must have heard some struggling child working at "The Cuckoo" on the front room piano for a forthcoming exam. It was a set piece for these exams for many years, and it was these stumbling performances which attracted the arranger to this little gem. The piece appears in one of the books of harpsichord pieces by the French master Louis Daquin. The title is taken from the motive repeated throughout the piece.
Louis-Claude Daquin was born in Paris on July 4, 1694, and he died there on June 15, 1772, living quite a long life for those times.
