The piece is constructed around a non-vibrato sound - the only 'authorised' vibrato consists of bisbigliandi (tone-colour trills) and flattement - it is a calm, peaceful landscape, its contours softened by the snow (vibrato, special fingerings, voice and flute). It may be played with amplification.
