The purpose of Concerto Classics is to introduce intermediate students to front-line concertos before they might usually be expected to play them. Each concerto has therefore been truncated and simplified (there isn't a demi-semiquaver in sight!) to look very approachable. The editing is very good, reflecting Lynn Myall's input, some of the more remote keys have been avoided, and even the piano accompaniments are straightforward. An added bonus is the inclusion of the Supplementary Exercises section which ranges from sorting out dotted crotchets to exercises on exploring phrasing. There is no doubt that this is a quality book that achieves it's aim. Whether or not you think this is a good idea is another matter entirely.

This edition for flute includes concertos by Vivaldi, Mozart and Quantz. Each piece has been carefully arranged as a valuable stepping-stone towards the original great works. Also included are supplementary exercises designed to support students with the various technical aspects required in the solo parts.
